Wet-on-wet this week.

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another watercolour week! I hope you all had a lovely weekend – it’s been very windy over here, and it’s been quite wet – and while it’s useful for painting loose watercolours, it’s slightly less fun when you’re getting soggy taking the dog for a walk. If you’ve got better weather than me, enjoy! And if not, grab yourselves a towel or two, and let’s get right into what’s going on this week in the loose watercolour world.

Last week’s loose watercolour broadcast was ‘Purple Day Floral,’ and it was great to see so many of you joining in the fun! There were lots of familiar faces, but also a couple of new names as well, so I hope you enjoyed painting along! Tonight’s broadcast is on at the same time as usual, 8pm GMT, and you can find it here. We’ll be painting some tulips this time, so get your brushes out ready.

Purple Day Florals. Because they’re purple, and they’re florals. You get it? You get it.

It was also great to see your versions of the painting on the Loose Watercolour Beginners Group! It’s always a joy to see all of your versions of my paintings, so keep posting them! Toby and I love looking at them all, and I have to say that there’s some really impressive work being posted on there. If you’re not a member of the group yet, why not join in? It’s a group of over two thousand strong fellow beginner watercolour artists, and it’s a lovely community where people post their artwork, tips, tricks, and all sorts to help inspire you to paint! I also spend quite a lot of time on there as well, so it’s often the easiest way to ask me directly if you’ve got any questions about art. You can find the group here.

Speaking of Toby, he’s been on a little adventure this week, and it seems like he thinks he’s a bit of a sailor now. Here he is, looking out to sea – he’d be right at home in a crow’s nest, but I think he’d try and scare off the birds.

Ahoy there, matey!

If you wat some more painting practice, there’s a new tutorial that’s just been posted on Patreon, ‘Tulips and String.’ We’re tackling an interesting subject this time, with an artistic contrast between the two elements. Although it might look a little tricky, it’s a good one to try if you’re at a beginners to intermediate level. You can find my Patreon here.

There’s also a new tutorial on loosewatercolours.com this week, with ‘Loose Iris Buddies’ now available! I promise, it’s easier than it looks, and you can paint those January blues away by splashing them onto the paper instead!

‘Loose Iris Buddies.’ Why not paint some flowers and pretend it’s spring?

That’s all from me this week, as I’ve been busy hunkering down to try and avoid the rain. As always, there’s an exclusive video at the end of this post for all you paid subscribers as a thank you for all of your support, and this week, I thought we’d go with something different. So instead of a typical paint-along tutorial, there’s a video on how to develop your drawing techniques, so you can practice your skills as a whole and develop your artistic practice. I hope you enjoy it!

I’ll be back in your inboxes next Monday for some more loose watercolour-related news, but in the meantime, have a lovely week, and happy painting!
