Warmer weather

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolours here at Loose Watercolours HQ. How’s your week been? Relaxing? Exciting? Did you get any painting done? However your week was, Mondays are always time for a fresh start, and so there’s plenty of time for painting fun over the next few days!

I hope you all enjoyed our trip into springtime last Monday with ‘Snowdrop Time,’ the Loose Broadcast. I’ve seen some of your work already, and I’ve got to say, colour me impressed! There’s more fun to be had tonight with this week’s broadcast, ‘Tulips Today!’, which is on at the usual time of 8pm GMT. I’ll see you there in a few hours, with brushes prepped and a nice hot cuppa on the go! Here’s the link to join in: https://loosewatercolours.com/live-broadcast/

And if you’d like to see everyone’s magnificent paintings for yourselves, why not join the Loose Watercolour Beginners’ Facebook Group? That way, you’ll also get regular reminders and painting tips every week, and you’ll never miss a live broadcast again! You can join here for free via the link: https://m.facebook.com/groups/753969806117098/?ref=share

If you fancy some more florals this week, why not get yourselves over to the Patreon site, where ‘Daffodil Time,’ the new beginner’s tutorial, has just dropped. With some lovely vibrant shades of yellow and some delicate petals taking centre stage, this certainly isn’t a tutorial to miss! In terms of my painting this week, I’ve been out and about now that the weather’s decided to warm up. Here’s one that I thought was particularly fun! ‘Poppy Tree Field’ turned out quite well – but what do you think? Would you like to paint something like this for a tutorial? Let me know.

Not all of the weather was so nice though, and I found myself in Nottingham (of Robin Hood fame) for work this week. It didn’t stop me from getting the sketchbook out though!

A cold day out in Nottingham.

Toby’s dropping in this week to offer a couple of tips and tricks of his own when it comes to loose watercolours, and he’s known around these parts as being a master of his craft.

Watercolour Basics #12: Salting your painting. Yes, I’m serious.

And in all seriousness, there’s also another tips and tricks video this week to help you get more out of your painting. Have you ever thought about using salt in loose watercolours? No? Fair enough – it’s not the most obvious combination. But give it a go – it creates this fantastic effect which can really make your pictures pop right off the page! So watch the video below to get some help getting started, then give it a go yourselves!

And if you fancy treating yourselves this spring, why not splash out with your very own set of the Loose Gang to really elevate your painting? Perfect as a treat for yourself or for artistically-inclined friends, the Loose Gang are the ideal way to improve on your loose watercolour journey.

All tucked up and ready to post.

That’s all from me this week, as there’s a cake just fresh out of the oven. How do I know, you ask? I can smell it from here, and it smells just delicious. My mouth’s watering already.

As always though, there’s an extra-special tutorial included at the end of this post for all of you paid subscribers, as an enormous thank you to all of you for your generosity. I hope you all enjoy painting along to ‘Little Purple Flowers,’ and I can’t wait to see how you all get on.

Until next time though, it’s goodbye from me and Toby the dog, and we’ll be back in your inboxes very soon. Till then, have a lovely week, and happy painting!

‘Little Purple Flowers.’
