Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolours! How’s your week been? Good, I hope. Now there’s a surefire event every July that always makes me feel like summer is well and truly underway, and that’s the return of Wimbledon. Toby the dog and I have been watching it for the past couple of days surrounded by ice cream and icy water! I don’t know about you all, but it’s been absolutely sweltering over here, so we’ve been avoiding making any sudden movements. That doesn’t include painting, though, thank goodness.
Speaking of painting, it was fantastic to see you all at last week’s live broadcast. I hope you all had as much fun as I did painting ‘Potty Red Floral’ as much as I did! Don’t worry if you missed it – you can catch the show here by following the link: https://loosewatercolours.com/new-loose-techniques/109-potty-red-floral/
Typically live broadcasts are on Monday nights, around 8pm GMT, so keep your calendars clear for then if you want to join in the fun!
And if you’d like to see everyone’s magnificent paintings for yourselves, why not join the Loose Watercolour Beginners’ Facebook Group? That way, you’ll also get regular reminders and painting tips every week, and you’ll never miss a live broadcast again! You can join here for free via the link: https://m.facebook.com/groups/753969806117098/?ref=share
There’s also a new tutorial, ‘Carrot Friends,’ available on Patreon, and you can watch along by following the link here: patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours
And if you’d like another tutorial to paint along to on this fine summer’s day, why not head over to the loosewatercolours.com website, where you can paint ‘Yellow & Pink Flowers.’ You can watch it here by following this link: https://loosewatercolours.com/academy/yellow-pink-floral
And why not get in the floral spirit this summer by giving this free simple flower tutorial? Give it a go below.
Paint Historic Wells & Somerset: September 2025
I’ve mentioned this before, but just in case you missed it, I’m hosting a Loose Watercolour workshop in September of next year – 7th September to the 11th September to be exact – in the gorgeous setting of Wells & Somerset, so you can paint along to your heart’s content in the scenic landscape of the English South.
Painting destinations will include places like Kilver Court and Nunney, as well as Vicar’s Close with its stone buildings, Bishop’s Palace with its moat, and the captivating medieval market.
This week, I thought we’d take a deeper dive into some simple drawing ideas. So you’ve mastered the basics? But what about coming up with your own beautiful watercolour scenes? Here’s a helpful little video to help you come up with your own simple little drawings.
In terms of my own paintings this week, I’ve been practicing some interior scenes. You can see the finished result below!
That’s all from Toby and I this week, as there’s another tennis match starting in a few minutes. As always, though, there’s an exclusive tutorial at the end of this post for all of you paid subscribers, as a huge thank you for all of your generous support. This week’s tutorial is ‘Golden Pears Line & Wash,’ and I hope you all enjoy painting along!
I’ll be back in your inboxes very soon, but until next week, it’s goodbye from Toby and I, and have a lovely week, and happy painting!
