Spring Magnolias & Evening Song!

Hello everyone, and what a glorious few days of sunshine we have enjoyed with loose watercolours! I hope your week has been good with plenty of painting time! Here at Looseville HQ, we have been outdoors and even took to the highway with a Plein air Holiday to the coast. I hope you have some exciting adventures to look forward to, or maybe set up your studio outdoors? We can create our own journey, be it near or far.

Toby has been a good boy while Ive been away and has been gifted a new walking jacket, blue suits him, and he is the talk of the village. Maybe he will run for mayor very soon!

We had a fun time on this week’s Live Broadcast, ‘Spring Magnolia’ was a lively get-together and you produced some amazing results!

‘Blue Forest’

So I travelled nearly 200 miles (around 10000km), well, it felt that far!

This was for a Plein air painting holiday in a beautiful old village called Staithes on the North East coast, it has not changed for over 100 years, so it retains its old world charm. It was a great group of painters, and this was my first attempt at oil painting, which I really enjoyed the challenge.

These are the three paintings I created in the sunshine, along with a couple of visits to the fabulous pubs with singing late into the night!

How are your loose swirls?

I think with a little practice, you could be good at these, and our latest tutorial ‘Cadmium Floral Evening’ on Loosewatercolours.com will help to crack the swirls code! It always amazes me how the paintings come together with good brush movement, and not forgetting clean water, too.

Here is a simple painting I created with my Loose Gang Brushes a while ago, but I believe it so how vital the correct brushes are to help you achieve to look your after.

Sometimes we place the value of the correct colours as the most important part of the painting, but the way we place the paint and move the paint during the process is equally important. You can never cover large areas quickly enough with small brushes!

Here’s a great Tips & Techniques that can help you to achieve the Strength & Tone

in your paintings, so sit back and take a look!
