Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolours with me, Andrew Geeson! How was your week? Your weekend? Did you get any painting done? And happy thanksgiving to those of you that are stateside. I’m sure you’ve all got a busy week coming up, what with all the family visits and food prep going on. For those of you not in America, though, Christmas is fast approaching, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll have heard a slight jingle in the air. Well, less that, than the radio blaring out Wham! and Elton John at every opportunity, and I’ve seen almost a million Christmas ads in the last week alone. It’s exhausting just to think about.
This week’s live broadcast is ‘Candle Evening.’ This is more of a vintage style than normal, but I thought it might be fun to mix it up a little – plus, who doesn’t want a little bit of a challenge? You can watch it here at 8pm GMT.
Remember, you can get reminders for all of the live broadcasts and new tutorials on the Beginners’ Facebook Group, which you can join here. There’s over two thousand members, and everyone is incredibly enthusiastic, so it’s a supportive environment where you can post your artwork and share tips and tricks you’ve picked up through painting.
This week, I’ve been out and about on my travels, as I ran a workshop for a lovely art society in South Muskham! They were a great group, and all incredibly enthusiastic painters – and they all produced some absolutely great work. Plus, there was tea, cakes, and wine – what more could you want?
Are any of you members of your local art societies? It’s certainly something to look into – it’s a great way to connect with other local artists, and they often run workshops for a variety of different styles to you can explore different methods of painting. I’ve been running workshops for local art groups for years, and I’ve certainly travelled all over England (well, the bits that are within a certain petrol radius) being hosted by various societies. They’re always incredibly friendly, and a great place to meet like-minded painters, and I’m always blown away by the levels of talent and enthusiasm I always see.
I also got a little bit more landscape practice in this week (from the comfort of my studio, of course), so I tried my hand at a couple of ‘snowscapes.’ It’s not snowed here yet, but with the weather being so cold I wouldn’t be surprised if it does soon. But snow is always the perfect feature for a Christmas feel, so why not make some paintings for your friends and family this holiday? They’re the perfect gift, as they’re so personal and fun to create. Plus, you can impress everyone with your fabulous art skills.
Would you fancy something like this as a tutorial? If so, just let me know down below.
That’s all from me this week, as it’s been a little busy travelling all over the county putting on workshops and getting ready for the Christmas season. As usual, this week’s exclusive tutorial for paid subscribers is ‘Poinsettia Abstract,’ which started off as a doodle but turned out to be very popular! As you can see, we’re sticking with the Christmas theme, as poinsettias are everywhere during the holidays, and our house is certainly no exception! That’s just at the end of this post, so I hope you enjoy painting along.
You’ll hear from me again next Monday as usual, but in the meantime, happy painting, and happy holidays!
