Hello everyone, and welcome to another week of loose watercolours! How’s your week been? Great, I hope. Toby and I have been flower spotting all week, as there’s some lovely daffodils blooming here in the village – it makes a nice change from the cold and damp. There’s nothing like a spot of sun to brighten your mood. Sometimes I think winter seems to last forever, and you almost forget what it’s like when the sun comes out – so it’s a lovely surprise when it’s suddenly t-shirt weather!
No live broadcast last week as I wasn’t in tip-top shape, but there’s one on tonight at the usual time of 8pm GMT. This week’s subject is ‘Potty Lavender’. The last live broadcast was ‘Tulips Today,’ though, and I hope you all enjoyed painting along! I love flowers – as you can probably tell with just how much I paint them – so this one was a very fun paint, and I’m sure you all had just as much fun as I did. After all, what better time to paint the flowers than when springtime is on the way!
And if you’d like to see everyone’s magnificent paintings for yourselves, why not join the Loose Watercolour Beginners’ Facebook Group? That way, you’ll also get regular reminders and painting tips every week, and you’ll never miss a live broadcast again! You can join here for free via the link: https://m.facebook.com/groups/753969806117098/?ref=share
If that wasn’t enough flowers for you, you can bet that there’s more with ‘Exploding Floral,’ another beginners’ tutorial now available on Patreon. This one’s in the Line & Wash technique, which is my fun little twist on wash and line, and this one’s a fabulous explosion of colour. If you’d like to give it a go (maybe you’ve got some Easter cards you’d like to design!), you can find it by clicking the link here: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours
A little bit of Loose Gang fun this week.
I managed to get a spot of painting done out and about this week, as I wanted to take full advantage of the fresh air. So of course, I got the brushes out and went for a spot of plein air painting in Rutland, where I had a go at this quaint little thatched cottage. Rutland, it turns out, is the smallest county in England. Who knew? Well, I mean, it is quite small, so it makes sense. But I ended up creating this lovely little painting!
Watercolour Basics #13: Mini Dave Brush
This week, we’re stopping in with Mini Dave on our journey through the watercolour basics. Let’s see what he’s got to say for himself, shall we? As usual, watch the short tutorial below a few times to really get the gist of what the technique is, then give it a go yourselves.
That’s all from me this week, as I’ve got to start setting up tonight’s live broadcast. After all, I can’t sit down to paint without a couple of biscuits and a proper brew! There’s an exclusive tutorial included at the end of this post for all of you paid subscribers as usual though, as after all, I couldn’t run this without your support. In fitting with this week’s theme, you guessed it, it’s more flowers! ‘Little Purple Flowers’ is a simple little tutorial just focusing on a few key colours, but it creates such a dramatic effect! I hope you all enjoy painting along.
I’ll see some of you shortly, but I’ll be back in your inboxes very soon. Until then though, have a lovely week! It’s goodbye from Toby and I for now, but happy painting!
