Florals and foliage this week.

Hello everyone, and welcome back to this Monday’s news blast about what’s going on in the world of Loose Watercolours. It was the summer solstice last Thursday, so we’re now at the height of summer – and the weather is really showing it! We’ve had some lovely warm breezes over this past weekend, and it’s been the perfect temperature to go out and practice some painting! How’s your week been? Did you get any painting done? Did you get time to relax? I hope so.

Last week’s live broadcast was ‘Tea & Flower,” and I hope you all had as much fun painting along as I did! It turns out that using a tea pot as a plant pot is a great idea, especially if you don’t have any spare vases lying about, and it’s particularly good for artistic inspiration. I hope you all liked playing with the delicate florals in this piece, especially now that the flowers are well and truly out in bloom these days.

If one live broadcast wasn’t enough for you, how about two? There was a second live broadcast on Patreon last week, where we painted along to ‘Venice Bridge,’ inspired by some of my travels this year. I hope you all enjoyed exploring the winding canals of Venice with me!

There’s also another tutorial available on loosewatercolours.com this week, ‘Washing in the Woods.’ This is a landscape, so you can practice your foliage and create some dynamic scenes with the washing gently swaying in the breeze. If you’d like to paint along, it’s available on the loosewatercolours.com website!

I’ve been thinking a lot about Amsterdam since we’ve got back, so I thought I’d take another look at some of my camera roll contents from the galleries. Here are two that I found especially interesting from the Van Gogh museum: the first is the only known portrait of him made by another artist, and the second is- well. I don’t think I need to explain myself there. I’m sure you’ve all come across the famous Sunflower series. And I hope you all enjoy the colour as much as I did.

Sunflowers!

That’s all from me this week, as I’m working away from home at the moment. I’ve said my goodbyes to Toby the dog, and I’m away in sunny Manchester for the next couple of days. But I’m having a lot of fun exploring the city, especially the Northern Quarter, so I’m enjoying the brief change of scenery.

This week’s exclusive paid tutorial is a ‘Simple Buzzy Bee.” We’ve currently got a few bees buzzing around our garden, so I took the natural inspiration and came up with this little tutorial. I hope you all enjoy painting along!

Until next time, though, it’s goodbye from me, and happy painting!
