Hello, everyone! Welcome back to another week of loose watercolours! Did you get any painting done? Whether you did or you didn’t, it doesn’t matter – just get yourselves a nice cuppa, settle down, and start fresh today. A new week brings new painting opportunities, after all.
Toby and I have had a bit of a slow week, ourselves. The Six Nations is on at the moment, so we’ve caught a bit of the rugby, and we’ve been enjoying the start of some slightly warmer weather – I can actually leave the house without wearing three jumpers now, which is a feat in itself. It seems like spring might be just around the corner!
For those of you that joined in with last week’s live broadcast, it was lovely to see you all! The subject was ‘Garden Corner,’ and we had some fun with some bright, loose florals, just in time for Valentine’s Day. If you want to paint along this week, tonight’s topic is ‘Window Florals,’ and it’ll be live from 8pm GMT. Click the link here to join in.
There’s another new tutorial now available on Patreon too, ‘Arches & Light.’ This one might seem a little trickier, mainly as it calls for some more delicate brushwork, but it’s a lot easier than you’d think. Besides, who isn’t up for a challenge? Practicing things you find difficult is the best (and quickest) way to improve! You can find my Patreon (and this tutorial) here!
If you’d like to work on your brush strokes and improve your loose technique, why not take get yourselves a set of the Loose Gang brushes? You’ll have your own Miss Rigger to help create those delicate moments, a Big Brian for maximum coverage, Dangerous Dave for some artistic flair, and a Flat Phil as an all-rounder. Perfect for if you want to elevate your painting, or just as a gift for yourselves or someone artistic in your life -you can get your very own set right here.
And for those of you that aren’t members of the Loose Watercolour Beginners’ Group on Facebook, why not join in the fun? With over 2,500 artists in the group now, you’ll never miss a live broadcast again, and you’ll also get notified whenever there’s a new tutorial published on the website. Plus, it’s teeming with artistic inspiration, with a wonderful community of loose watercolourists posting their lovely work – and there’s also lots of tips and tricks from me in just how you can improve your practice. If you’ve like to join, just follow the link here.
That’s all from me this week folks, as I’ve got some afternoon plans that involve me going for a walk with Toby. As always, there’s an exclusive tutorial at the end of this post for all of you paid subscribers, as my way of saying an enormous thank you for all of your support on this Substack. This week’s subject is a ‘Pink Flower & Bee,’ so I hope you’ll all enjoy the floral theme. I’ll catch up with you all very soon, but in the meantime, have a great week, and happy painting.
