New year, new-ish painting habits.

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another weekly edition of Loose Watercolours with Andrew Geeson. How’s your week been? How’s the weather where you are? If it’s anything like the English Midlands right now, you’ll be all wrapped up under a blanket or two with a couple of jumpers to top it off. It’s quite chilly over here.

It’s been a busy week here in the world of Loose Watercolours as we’ve started the year off with a bang. Well, more accurately, the sound of a band tuning up. That’s right, last week, we took a trip down to London to go and see the hit show Hamilton. I’ve actually seen it before, as it came to the UK in 2018, and we saw it with the original London cast, but we had an afternoon free and figured we’d go see it again given just how much fun it was! I’m not sure if any of you have seen it – probably, as it’s very popular, but if you want my recommendation, go and give it a watch!

I’m not the only person to experience a show this week, as Toby’s also been hitting up our local music scene. Here he is hanging out with a local rock band. He’s enjoying the groupie lifestyle at the moment.

Loose Watercolour’s very own celebrity.

In more painting-themed news, last week’s live broadcast was ‘Lavender Landscape,’ and I’ve really enjoyed seeing all of your paintings on the Beginners Facebook Group. I thought we’d paint a summery scene to try and imagine some warmer weather, but it doesn’t seemed to have worked yet – at least, not for me. Either way, I’m sure June will be here in a blink of an eye. If you fancy some painting tonight, the next live broadcast will be airing at 8pm GMT, and you can find it by following the link here. And if you’re not a member of the Beginners Facebook Group yet, you can join in the fun here.

There’s also some more tutorials available on Patreon this week. ‘Potty Geraniums’ is an exclusive video where we’ll paint with Mini Dave, so an ideal tutorial to practice your brushstrokes. ‘Café Sunlight,’ on the other hand, is a little bit trickier, so perfect if you want a bit of a challenge. If you’re feeling brave, why not give it a go? Crack open all of those lovely red and blue tones for some painting practice!

Want more tutorials to paint? Well, you’re in luck. There’s another new video on loosewatercolours.com this week, ‘Four Roses,’ so get your brushes out ready if you want some watercolour practice. Here, we’ll use negative painting techniques to emphasise the delicate petals of the roses against a sea of green leaves.

That’s all from me this week in terms of painting news, but as I’ve mentioned before, we’ve got some exciting things in the works this year. We’re currently in the process of revamping the website so that it’s easier to use, and I’ve also got some projects in the works to help you really master the techniques of loose watercolour painting. So keep your eyes peeled for more updates!

As usual, there’s an extra-special bonus tutorial at the end of this post for you paid subscribers as a thanks for all your support, so I hope you enjoy painting some ‘Quick Thistles!’ Toby and I will be back in your inboxes very soon for some more painting updates, but until then, have a great week, and happy painting!
