Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolours. The last, in fact, of this year, as we’ll be taking a short break over the holidays, so we’ll be back in the new year. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year, wherever you are in the world and however you’re celebrating – I hope you have a lovely and peaceful festive season. I’d also like to extend an enormous thank you to each and every one of you for your continued support of this great community, and I’m glad that you all enjoy the wonders of painting watercolours as much as I do.
I hope you all had a fabulous day yesterday, celebrating with friends and family. We certainly did! There’s a few leftovers in the fridge, and chocolates to enjoy in front on the TV, which is an annual Christmas tradition for me. There’s nothing better than catching all of the holiday specials on at this time of year!
I hope you all enjoyed last week’s live broadcast with a seasonal theme, ‘Christmas Berries.’ There’ll be plenty more in the new year, so it’s the perfect time to get thinking about any new year’s resolutions you might have. Mine is certainly to paint a bit more – I want to experiment more with the loose watercolour style and discover more fun things that the medium can do. There’s also a few more resolutions that I’ve made – and I’ll keep shtum about those for now, as they involve some exciting developments for the Loose Watercolours world, which you’ll hear more about soon.
Thinking about painting in the loose style, I thought I’d put together a few tips on how to paint loosely, especially if you’re coming to the medium for the first time. So without further ado, let’s have a look at how to get loose!
If you find yourselves with some time on your hands, or just want to fit some painting in in between visiting friends and family, take a wander over to loosewatercolours.com, where there’s a new tutorial availible to have a go with. ‘Flowing Purple Dream’ is a simple little floral with some rich blue tones, perfect for a spot of watercolour practice. If you’re a member of Patreon, there’s also a new tutorial on there for you to try as well. ‘Snow Fox’ was a Patreon live broadcast, where we experimented with just simple colours and added in a shy fox to the scene. Here’s the link to the Patreon site to find out more: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours
And if that wasn’t enough, there’s also another tutorial available on the Loose Watercolours Academy – ‘Magnolia Spring’ is perfect if you’re looking forward to sunnier times, and you can find the tutorial here should you want to paint along: https://loosewatercolours.com/academy/magnolia-spring
Watercolour Basics #7: Mini Dave Brush
This week, I thought we’d take a closer look at how to use the Mini Dave Brush. Maybe you’re familiar with Mini Dave already, or maybe you’ve just been introduced to his fantastic skills – either way, why not watch the video to find out more about what he can do?
A brief interlude – a little Christmas message from the Loose Gang!
That’s all from me this week, as I’ll let you all get back to your Christmas celebrations. I hope you all have a relaxing holiday season, and a very happy new year when it comes. As a Christmas treat, I thought I’d include a Christmas tutorial at the end of this post, as a thank you to all of you for your generous support over this year. I hope you all enjoy painting along to ‘Christmas Robins.’
There’s also two exclusive tutorials at the end of this post as an extra special thank you to all of you paid subscribers – after all, it’s your generosity that helps keep this Substack running. I hope you all enjoy painting along to ‘Lilac Delight’ and ‘Snowdrops in Blue.’
And with that, I’d like to wish you all a very happy holidays, and happy painting! I’ll be back in your inboxes very soon.
