Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolours. There’s no mistaking that winter’s on the way now that the clocks have gone back, but I’ve got to say, I enjoyed that extra hour in bed on Sunday morning. A much needed rest, I think. And of course, it meant an extra hour for painting, which is always worthwhile! Did you get any painting done? Whether you did or you didn’t, it’s Monday again, which means that it’s the start of a brand new week in which you can have some watercolour fun!
It was lovely to see so many of you joining in with last Monday’s live broadcast, where we painted along to ‘Autumn Reeds.’ I’ve already seen several of your renditions on the Beginner’s Facebook Group, and I’m very impressed! You’re all improving in leaps and bounds, and you should be very proud of yourselves. This week’s broadcast is on tonight at the usual time of 8pm GMT, and today’s subject is ‘Halloween Cat.’ Want to join in? Follow the link here: https://loosewatercolours.com/live-broadcast/
If you’re more organised than me, and are already thinking ahead to the Christmas season, what about sending some lovely personalised Christmas cards this year? If you like the sound of that, why not try out the new tutorial on loosewatercolours.com this week? ‘Cool City Morning’ is a simple little tutorial where you can impress all of your friends and family with your expertise with the brush – and of course, it makes for a nice seasonal scene or two. You can give it a go here: loosewatercolours.com
And if you’re a Patreon member, there’s even more tutorials for you to try out this week! ‘Autumn Canopy’ is a bright and bold number with all sorts of interesting elements – you can really have some fun with texture and colour with this one, so it’s a great tutorial where you can practice getting loose with your brush. And, of course, it’s inspired by all of the falling leaves gathering on the pavements outside. Would you like to paint along? It’s not all chills in the air this week though, as the Loose Gang are still cooling down from their trip to the South of France last week. They looked at all of the sites, including some special art-themed ones, and they even found themselves looking round the apartments of a famous painter or two! Can you guess who lived in the house below?
Any guesses? I’ll give you a hint… he’s French. That didn’t really help, did it? So this painter was an Impressionist, and liked to paint in the loose style as well. That’s right, it’s…
Drumroll please!
Renoir! A very interesting bloke, if you ask me. He liked to paint during the Belle Epoque, so just before World War One. You’ll probably have seen some of his paintings before if you’ve ever looked around an old art museum.
Speaking of getting loose, how about a little look at how you can use your Loose Gang to easily get looser with your painting? Let’s watch the video below.
If you’d like to, you can get your very own set here: https://loosewatercolours.com/product-category/loose-gang
And of course, if you’re a member of loosewatercolours.com, there’s no shortage of tutorials to practice with! The site has over three hundred fully narrated tutorials, so whether you prefer painting flora or fauna, cityscapes or animals, there’s something for everyone! That’s all from me this week, as I’ve got to go and start setting up for tonight’s live broadcast. Remember, it starts at 8pm GMT if you’d like to join in the fun! As per usual, there’s an exclusive paid tutorial at the end of this post for all you paid subscribers – after all, I couldn’t run this Substack without you! So I hope you all enjoy painting along to ‘Big Red Flower’ – after all, it’s poppy season. I look forward to seeing all of your versions!
In the meantime, it’s goodbye from Toby and I, and have a lovely week! I’ll be back in your inboxes very soon, but in the meantime, happy painting!
