Calming scenes this week

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another warm week of loose watercolours! How’s your week been? Relaxing, I hope. We’ve had a lovely week painting in the sun over here, and there’s been some lovely floral inspiration blooming in our back yard now that summer is in full swing.

It was lovely to see so many familiar faces at last week’s live broadcast. The theme was ‘Lavender Sunset,’ and I hope you all enjoyed painting along to this tranquil scene as much as I did. With some beautifully rich jewel tones and some light autumnal hues, we ended up with a lovely picture at the end. This week’s subject is ‘Window of Summer,’ and it’s on at the usual time of 8pm GMT. For Patreon, there’s also a new tutorial available this week, which is ‘Poppy Twins.’ This one has a slightly more limited palette, which means that there’s a little bit more focus on where the colour is going – with a more interesting result! Last week’s Cotswolds excursion led to some interesting plein air practice, as I got up to some painting in the lovely little village of Burford. We enjoyed some tea, cake, and someone even bought my finished painting off me to give to his girlfriend! All in all, it was a lovely little trip.

A spot of painting practice.

The loose gang even got in on the action and enjoyed a spot of cake themselves! Mini Dave was especially fond of this delicious homemade sponge cake in the local tea shop!

A paint and a light bite.

Of course, if you’d like to treat yourselves this summer, why not grab your very own set of Loose Gang brushes? Elevate your painting skills and try out all the new techniques with the complete set, or just pick up any individual brush that takes your fancy. That’s all from me this week, as Toby and I are off to do a spot of painting – we thought we’d make the most of the weather. I think I quite fancy a floral this afternoon, or maybe a landscape? We’ll have to see where the moment takes us.

As always, there’s an exclusive tutorial at the end of this post to say an enormous thank you to all of you paid subscribers, as it’s with your help that this Substack can keep running. This week’s subject is Pink Meadow, and this time we use some lovely pinks and blues to create a calming meadow scene.

‘Pink Meadow.’

Until next time, though, it’s goodbye from Toby and I, and happy painting! We hope you all have a great week!
