Hello everyone, and welcome back to another Loose Watercolours post! I’m with you a little bit later than usual this week, but I hope you didn’t miss me too much. All apologies, folks, but sometimes life gets in the way – which, in this case, was in the form of painting.
For those of you that joined me for the live broadcast last night, I hope you enjoyed painting along to ‘Cornish Florals!’ Inspired by a (not so) recent trip to the coast, we painted some beautiful blue flowers, and from what I’ve seen that’s been posted so far, I’m very impressed with all of your efforts.
If you’d like to join next week, the live broadcast is always on a Monday night around 8pm GMT, and you can watch it when it airs here.
Have any of you ever been to Cornwall? If not, it’ should definitely be on your UK bucket list. It’s the most southern county in the UK, and it has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. So incredibly inspirational! We used to go quite a lot about a decade ago, but we went for a family holiday this year, so that little Toby could come along too – and of course, I got a lot of painting done. After all, with views like these, how could you not?
We also did a bit of sightseeing as well – if you’re familiar with the book ‘Jamaica Inn,’ by Daphne du Maurier, we saw the actual Jamaica Inn as well.
There were also some other tutorials released this week, including ‘Snowdrops in Blue,’ which is on loosewatercolours.com. I know it’s a little early to be thinking about springtime just yet, but with it seemingly always being dark outside and with winter winds in the air, it’s always nice to think about warmer weather.
We also had another live broadcast last week – this time on the Patreon channel, which you can access here. Thursday night’s topic was ‘Pear and Shadow,’ and as you can probably guess from the name, we looked at light and shadow, and how they can help when creating a painting. We had great fun, and it’s always interesting to see how everyone’s paintings turn out at the end of the day.
If you’d like to get notified about new tutorials when they’re released, reminders for live broadcasts on the day, and want to join a friendly community of over two thousand watercolour artists, you can join in the fun over in the Loose Watercolour Beginners Facebook Group, which you can find here. There’s painting tips and tricks, inspirational artworks, and plus, it’s a good place to ask me anything art-wise that you might want to know.
In other news this week, I tried out a new mechanic this week, but he didn’t seem to be as good as the last one. A bit more interested in biscuits and carrots, if you ask me. Plus he’d often want to go for walks, and wouldn’t come back for hours!
That’s all from me this week, as we’re in full festive swing here in the the Geeson household. There’s mulled wine in the cupboards, and Toby seems awfully interested in all of the presents starting to pile up under the Christmas tree. As always, we’ve got a special treat in store for all of you paid subscribers, as an extra special thank you for all of your support, so this week’s exclusive tutorial is ‘Tankard of Florals,’ which you can find at the end of this post. We’ve also got a few more things in store for you over this Christmas period, including a little look at the colour sepia coming later this week.
In the meantime, though, happy holidays, and until I next see you, happy painting!
